You might not expect it but it turns out there is a perfect way to stack your burger. The proper stacking gives you the best flavour combination, texture and structural integrity that’s key to enjoying your meal.
So whether you’re having a barbecue or knocking up a little smash burger, follow this simple step-by-step guide to stacking a burger for the best results.
Start with the bottom bun on your plate. Lightly toasting on your barbecue or frying can help it retain any moisture.
Up next is the sauce. Whether ketchup is your thing, mustard, mayo or a mix of them all with a few pickles mixed in for good measure, add whatever condiments you love here.
The lettuce should then be added to trap the sauce against the bun and prevent too much moisture. A fresh iceberg lettuce typically works well in a burger.
If you’re adding the likes of a tomato slice or gherkins, add them here. The tomato should be thinly sliced. Beef tomatoes are our favourite in burgers.
For the gherkins or pickles, if you’re adding them, they work really well with the flavour of a tomato and finish off a burger.
Whether you’re going classic beef, chicken, pork or something a little different, your burger sits here on top of the extras.
Before adding your burger, add the cheese on top whilst still cooking to allow the cheese to melt. We love a rich cheddar or an emmental with a classic beef burger.
Grilled or raw, adding onions will really step up your burger. They work well, sticking to the cheese to stop them falling out.
Finish off with the top bun before squashing down a little to help get your mouth around it. Then, simply enjoy.
